Lamictal And Osteoporosis
A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

I've read that there are studies confirming that Lamictal use significantly increases the risk of osteoporosis, especially in women. My docs have never raised this issue. Given that I'm no spring chicken and that osteoporosis is a very real concern for mature women this "oversight" by my docs is of serious concern to me. Just wondering if any of your medical teams have raised this issue with you. It seems like adding a calcium supplement should be a regular recommendation whenever there's a… read more

I'm sorry the link isn't working but basically yes there are huge problems with Lamictal and osteoporosis even in pediatric patients if you just Google Lamictal with problems with osteoporosis a bunch of stuff and I went to WebMD and there was a great article it's just awesome and just make sure you're taking your calcium like that guy so kindly told you to do. But yes there's one other medication and the Lamictal which are biggest medications cause Osteo and I can't think of it right now because my brain is mush really tired I hope you're doing really well sweetie I hope everything is going really good for you haven't seen you for a while but actually I haven't been on in several days everyday I had multiple appointments by kids me specific my son to the orthodontist today to get braces ex-husband is not going to pay a dime but anyway have a good night

Yes, I'm aware of and familiar with osteoporosis, but I wasn't advised by my docs that Lamictal increases the risk for these bone problems. It seems like they should have raised the issue, especially since older women who fall and break a hip tend to deteriorate rapidly (e.g. die much sooner than they otherwise would have). If it wasn't for the internet and it's wealth of information we'd never know these things or that the docs are failing to address critical issues about our care and the treatments they're prescribing.
