Anyone Have Controlled Grand-mals, But Still Having Absent Seizures(petit-mals) Regularly?
A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

I've been dealing with absent seizures, or "space outs" as I call them for a while now and while my grand-mals are controlled my space outs fluctuate so often these days. My neurologist has me on a set dosage and won't up it till they catch it on an eeg again, because they've already upped me from 25 to now 150 milligrams nightly on lamychtical (on top of my keppra that's at 750 for now, used to be at 2500). The last two eegs haven't caught anything and I don't know what to do. These absent… read more

How long were your EEG's ? Were they a 3-4 hr, 24hrs, 3 days, or 5-7 day EEG ? The longer the EEG the better chance catching it.

Yes I had childhood epilepsy and mine were absent type seizures- I don't even think the teachers knew what was going on

Personally-I have given up on eeg's. I have had to many in my life and every one of them have proved nothing. To try and solve the problem and really get some solid answers I had the depth electrode test-basically electrodes inside your brain. Having an absence seizure it something I have to live with also and I end up having a migraine headache after one is over. All that does is makes having epilepsy more frustrating. If You do not have one already ask Your neurologist if there is a specific kind of medication that is stronger & better that will help end migraine headaches faster that You can use that is not purchased off the shelf in a drug store/pharmacy.

I am still having the absence seizure and the grand mal toxic seizures and I'm on the same meds as you. 500mg of limictal and 2000mg Keppra a day. I suffered from migranes a lot which I explained to my neurologist and he put me on a beta blocker which reduced my headaches. Whenever the migranes do come neurofen or ibeprofen with an hour or two sleep helps. Whenever I take absence seizures I usually take a sleep or eat/drink something which seems to bring me back to earth again which can be hard to do after absence. Hope this helped :)

I haven't had a grand mal since 2001. However I do have petite Mals (Absent or Partials) regularly. Around my monthly "Friend". Just before, during or right after. Dizziness, Nausea, crazy thoughts, cant think straight, I cant even articulate simple words like car, I am awake but NOT THERE. My husband will be talking to me and I am just staring into space, no clue what he was saying and then so tired I have to sleep. For hours. They did all the tests (MRI, CT, Sleep study, EEG everything) I have Epilepsy of an Unknown origin as the dr has put it.
