A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question πŸ’

I get in "trouble" for not being able to find a job in the new major I chose at this school. Worst part is side effects of seizures or meds I do things I don't remember, I speak with a "tone" or give an "attitude". Without meaning to I'm 24 I'm too old to do petty things like that to my parents but I constantly get yelled at for doing it.

It seems they have problems either believing it really is a side effect or the continue to forget and whenever it happens my family resorts to yelling and… read more

When I am talking to my dad and I forget a word he would say something like " figure out what you're gonna say and then say it" as if my thought was not fully formed. I told him that forgetting words is a problem from epilepsy. He said he knew. Didn't help much. So I gave him an article I found I Neurology Now about memory problems in epilepsy. I asked him to "please read it" he did and he is more understanding.
Neurology Now if a free magazine. You can have it sent to you and read it online. It's very interesting.

Tell your parents to do some research into your problem and they would see the side effects of both having epilepsy and the meds you take. Both cause memory loss, and the meds can cause you to get very angry. These are the same problems I have. I explain them to my wife. It is not easy living with this but be strong.

You have gotten some real good advise but everyone is different. It depends what med you are on. No matter you will have side effects . And family members have to come to understand the disease. I never had that problem. My family was over protective.
