Anyone Have Experience With Pregabalin
A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

Hi,
I've just had pregabalin recommended to me by my neurologist as an alternative to Lorazepam for my anxiety as he considers Lorazepam to be too addictive for regular use. I've been taking one every week - 10 days to deal with work situations such as presentations or meetings that I consider to be extra stressful and liable to bring on a seizure. Does anyone have any experience with this drug? I'd like to know it's going to help with the anxiety.

Hi @A MyEpilepsyTeam Member - yes so far I have been very lucky as the epilepsy hasn't affected my ability to work but recently my seizures have increased and they're always in the office so I don't know how long it will last before I need to go part-time. Ive noticed (and my family have) that my memory is getting worse.

I have and others I don't know if any of them help. I'm glad you are able to work. My seizures and memory loss don't allow me to.

Rhilets,
I used to take pregabalin and I found a number of different side affects it had that aren't even listed. I told the manufacturer about it. I don't even think they knew it could do what is was doing to me. I took it for almost about a decade, then I could feel it was making me toxic. I had been toxic before so I knew what was going on and had to think back many years to see that it was pregabalin that was the cause of me becoming toxic. I didn't want to become full blown toxic and I knew what to do. I don't advise others to do what I did unless you really understand what you are doing, it can be very dangerous because you are addicted to the medicine. I knew what a specialist would have told me to do so I did it myself. Next time I saw my neurologist I told him what I had done and why I did it and he agreed with what I had done.
You might not have the same reaction to that medicine as I did, I hope you don't. It caused eye pain for me and also problems with my GI tract and it really wasn't very effective in stopping my seizures. That is my experience with pregabalin. I believe it was originally made for people with diabetic neuropathy, but it can also be used to control seizures. I believe it is supposed to regulate GABA (a neurotransmitter) somehow, but I'm not sure how they believe it works.
