Medication Or All Natural?
A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

I recently been questioning my medication. I've been on probably 10 different meds and none have worked. I think there could be a natural way to fix this for me. Has anyone been in this situation and went natural and stopped their seizures?

We just discovered essential oils, they must be of high quality, 100 % pure to have a therapeutic effect. There are some that will cause a seizure so some research is encouraged. The ones that help with epilepsy are Frankincense, Clary Sage, Lavender, and Ylang Ylang. I use a diluting oil such as sweet almond oil and add four drops of each oil and then apply it two my sons big toes at am and pm, I put a drop on the back of the base of his neck, one drop on his temples and a drop on the top of his head. He carries a vial of Frankincense with him wherever he goes and when he feels like a seizure is coming on he breathes in the strong pleasant smell of it and it immediately makes him feel better! Its been four days since using the oils and no seizures!!! It's amazing! I am hopeful to get my son off of the pharmaceuticals which have so many dangerous side effects. We have tried Keppra, Zonicimide and Onfi so far and my son's seizures have increased drastically. They won't prescribe CBD for him yet so I have to keep playing the doctors game right now. I also have him on a modified Atkins diet which is helping too. I believe in a natural cure with God made products that are not chemicalized. Man does nothing but screw things up.

Ketogenic diet is VERY hard. I lasted about 11 days and took a "cheat" day and it crashed from there. Haha. High five Elizabeth and everyone else who does the diet. People think it's just another diet but no.....people don't understand how hard it is to stay under 30 grams of carbs (or your limit to keep your body in ketosis) everyday!

Cbd helps me, but it does not eliminate them.

I am attempting the no medication route right now. I've had absence seizures for years and last year started having grand mals in my sleep. The first one I had last year landed me in the ER and they stuffed Keppra down my throat without explaining to me the implications of being on such a medication. I spent a month taking it and also being completely overwhelmed with anger from the medication. After a month I spoke with my neurologist and together we decided to ween me off of the Keppra. For me it's worth my time to try it medication-free because my seizures are mostly under control - at least for now. I do other things to ensure that they stay that way like deep breathing, self-care, and making sure I get the sleep I need. I may revisit the medication idea later if/when my seizures change or become more severe but not before I try other alternative, non-medicinal therapies first.

Very nice! Thank you for the update! Well I'm already thinking mine could be low testosterone but that's my own guess just from the stuff I have experienced and the stuff I have researched. But I'm definitely going to look into this dr your talking to
