I am seven weeks pregnant. With the help of my doctor I have stopped my antidepressant and am doing okay. But I cannot stop my seizure medication. I am worried for my baby. I waited ten years for this, I had given up on having a baby. My husband and I are simultaneously happy and terrified. My medication, Neurontin (gabapentin) has not thus far been flagged for causing problems for a baby. And I know the consequences of having a seizure now could be immediate miscarriage. That would kill me. Has… read more
I had a child while on medication. My mother was scared when we told her. Around my 5th month, i was restricted to bedrest because of toxemia. My son grew up to be a healthy adult.
I had four children while taking dilantin. All four, healthy, happy. Adults now.
During my pregnancy, I was only taking Keppra (sorry, I forget what my dosage was during that time.) Towards the end, about midway through my 3rd trimester, my neurologist added Lamictal to control the increase in the partial seizures I was having. Because it was a high-risk pregnancy, I was monitored closely by several Maternal Fetal medicine doctors but I have both to a happy and healthy baby boy in 2014. Since I became pregnant though I've had a continued increase in my complex partial seizures, so they've increased the dosage for the Keppra and Lamictal and also added Vimpat. They're looking into having surgery for my to try and stop the seizures so my husband and I can try again to have another baby in the future.
I am not on the kind of meds you are on, but I took my medication while pregnant. My son was small when he was born( 5lbs 8 oz) but he grew up to be a healthy adult.
I wasn't on that specfic med while pg with my 2. Was on multiple AEDS including tegretol. The only issue my kids have is that they are sensitive to the sun. They can't be in the sun as long as most kids and have to apply sunscreen while swimming more often than other kids. I had multiple seizures while pg with my 8 year old.
