Hi. I been taking lamotrigine for a few hrs and its only now that I am really noticing side effects. Right from the beginning I've always had poor memory, low sex drive and weight gain. Nhowever these past few months I am really struggling with mood swings and insomnia. I wake up about two or three times a night. I can switch from being happy to irritated and pissed off at the drop of a hat. The mood swings and low sex drive are really starting to effect my family life and relationship.

I have been taking lamital for years and have been fine since just recently when i have been lowering my dosage and trying to come off it all. I had the same mood swings daily and felt very irritable. However this has subsided for me now that i have stopped coming off of it. I would say this is normal if you are taking a different amount everyday but what many people taking it like myself dont realize is that lamital is also a mood stabilizer used in bipolar disorder so effects on peoples mood is normal.
I have been on lamictal for quite a few years and in the beginning I was very emotional, depressed, and some could say bipolar. Once I upped my dose that seemed to all go away but now I unfortunately suffer from insomnia. Wish you the best of luck.
I too take the same dosage and can relate to your side effects 100%.
When I began taking it I would have sleepless nights. I would sometimes wake up in the middle of the night feeling full of energy and then would have such a hard time reconciling my sleep. This would affect my overall well-being tremendously the following day. Since, the symptoms have subsided but I did add some vitamins to my routine. I take B12 and a multivitamin on a daily basis. Also, I recommend you check out a supplement called "calm". I take this at night when I can't sleep or I'm feeling restless. Its also organic so I don't worry about strange side effects or dependency.
Regarding the mood swings unfortunately is not something i've been able to figure out. However, talk to your partner and explain that it's something completely out of your control. Personally, I don't intend to snap at my partner but I believe all the medicine we ingest creates a crazy chemical imbalance, which leads to our outbursts.
All my best!
