Memory Problems
A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

I have the worst memory out of everyone I know. I lose things all the time, including expensive phones and credit cards at bars, monthly. My boyfriend told me today that I, for two weeks straight, everyday, reminded him and fangirled out about McDonald's having Hello Kitty toys. I'm a little obsessed with Hello Kitty and anything Sanrio. I don't mean to be annoying, but I don't know what to do. I don't want it to affect my relationship because I love him. Help?

Yeah I am always putting things away and then I can't find them later. I am terrible at remembering whether or not I have met someone. I've introduced myself to my friend's brother about 3 times. It has to do with my seizures coming from my temporal lobe close to the hippocampus. Having alarms and using Facebook to remember people has helped.

I can quote song lyrics from 1983, but often forget what I got up to go to the kitchen.
Initially, my wife sent me to a Neuro to check early onset Alzheimer's. Turns out I was seizing in my sleep, and losing short term memory. At work I had to write down what I needed to stock the shelves, or I would forget what I went to get.

There are a couple posibilites . You are either having bad side effects from your med or meds or your seizures are affecting you memory center of the brain . It's making you forget and misplace things.

I too struggle w/ names. Especially I just met some , if it's my time hearing a company name, and even if I were to hear a movie or tv title. I have trouble remembering . The more times I hear the name or title the better chance I'll remember it.

I have found my memory has got a lot worse since been on the medication for my epilepsy. I find myself forgetting where things are and can't remember peoples names and addresses which is so frustrating. My epilepsy comes from my left temporal lobe so don't know if this makes any difference or not. Try not to get too tired as that may make things worse.
