I Am Constantly Mixing Up Words Or Stopping Mid Sentence Forgetting What I Was Talking About. Is This Normal?
A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

I have had epilepsy for 24 years now. I have over the past year or so having problems with my speech. Like calling the fridge a toilet. As well I start a conversation and stop dead In the middle because I have no clue what I was talking about. Does anyone else have these issues? Do you know why?

I've had moments like this. Some worse than others. It's hard to deal with, especially since I'm a Minister. The last thing you want to do is have your speech or thought patterns get all jacked up while you're delivering a sermon.

At least I know that I am not going crazy and that there are others out there like me.

I do that all the time. I do weird things too. Like for example when I make my coffee in the morning I try to dump coffee in the wrong place. I put sweet'n'low in a plastic bag the other day. Thought I was putting it in my cup. So many other things that I can't really think of to say, but it gets on my nerves so BAD.

I'm all for that Shazza. Or put us on some roller skates with our meds! Lol. At least we aren't alone in all of this. Especially if your family is like mine and gets bored with me trying to explain it and then have to start over because I forgot what I was saying. :)

Yes I have been struggling with epilepsy and a few other neurological problems since birth. It wasn't something that was really noticeable to me until I hit my early 30's. I started to have a lot of problems with short term memory. I often forget what I was going to say mid sentence. Misplace things that I literally had in my hands 2 seconds to losing it. This is another issue I have started recently that really bothers me is when I type, I will think one word and type another. Usually a word that has nothing to do with the one I intended to type. I'm not sure what is causing that but I plan to discuss it with my neurologist next time I see him. I have asked about the memory loss in the past, and mine told me that is a caused by both a combination of the medication and the seizures themselves.
